Abstract
Terms like Cloud Computing, SaaS or IaaS have become increasingly popularized recently, especially because the industry analysts see this as one of the solutions to weather the economic challenges. Looking beneath all the hype, what are the potential drawbacks of this emerging technology? Many decision-makers have concerns regarding data safety and confidentiality, in particular when it comes to storage and transmission. “Benefits of Pay-Per-Use for Media Streaming”
Speaker: Chan Fan Yong Manager, Information Technology (NewMedia Express)
Abstract
Are you currently paying for the compute resources 24x7 no matter you use it or not? Most servers are under utilized at an average 20-30% utilization, resulting in heavy wastage of hardware resource, energy, and data center space. Sizing for Media Streaming such as Youtube or video-on-demand is a challenging task as it is difficult to practice the number of concurrent users at any specific time, and the need to ensure satisfactory service level results in wastage in servers purchased for standby when demand increases. Leveraging on the grid where available compute resource, storage capacity, software and Internet connectivity that can be provisioned and paid for only when you use is a cost effective solution. High availability and high scalability needs can now be met by leveraging on the grid infrastructure.
Biodata
Chan Fan Yong joined NewMedia Express in 2004 and was appointed as an IT Manager.
He received a Bachelor Degree in Computing from the University of Tasmania, Australia. Fan Yong currently leads our development team. Equipped with Fan Yong's extensive applied knowledge in web application programming and database management and his ability to think out of the box to develop the best ideas, our development team is empowered to implement our technology solutions in the shortest possible timeframe.
